Matt's July 2025 Newsletter Article

At our annual meeting, Andy highlighted all the boards we serve on, and I wanted to use this space to highlight just a few of the projects we help move along coming up.

  1. Kiwanis: I’m the President of the club after being a secretary for a decade. Our latest project is the Community Literacy Project. We held meetings here at Grow Clinton, stored the books, and served as the promotion wing. And of course Grow Clinton grants me the time. So Kiwanis worked with the School District and Skyline to develop a plan to get books into the hands of kids where they least expect: the lobbies of businesses. If you want a series of books in your lobby, let me know!
  2. Riverbend Bicycle Club: On July 15 is the City of Clinton/Parks and Recreation. The bike club raised $1100 to provide over 100 free helmets for this event. Grow Clinton promotes the trail system and a biking/walking community as part of our community development.
  3. Dambo: We help with project management to help find locations and navigate supplies. It’s a huge win for our community.
  4. Paint it Back: I serve as the President of the board. We have our big event August 17-23. August 23 is the block party. What is our stake in the game? We have seen Chris and Gabi blossom into being the placemakers of Iowa. Gabi is going to speak at Rural Iowa Conference. It’s one component of our town’s renaissance and reimagination.
  5. LBPA: We just had our Burger Cookoff. 1300 people showed up. To highlight community, one of the burger cookers got overheated and our committee jumped in to help make it till the end.
  6. Music on the Avenue: Thursday July 10 is Biz After 5 night there.
  7. Hometown Pride: Clinton County of Walk of Fame

And every staff member serves on committees and boards. We know we can’t do this alone. And for me it’s community development: sense of place, quality of life, literacy, kids, health, neighborhood development, and more. Get involved is our motto. You don’t have to have the solutions, you just need to be willing to join a team and grind.
