Honoring Our Own: Clinton’s Hometown Hero Program

One thing to know about Clinton: we’re going to honor and celebrate our heroes.

In our true American river town, service is more than a word — it’s a way of life. For generations, the people of Clinton have stepped forward to protect, heal, and serve, whether in military uniforms, on the frontlines as first responders, or in the halls of our healthcare facilities. Many of them are our neighbors, friends, and family members. All of them are part of the fabric that makes Clinton who we are.

The Hometown Hero program was created to recognize and thank these individuals, both past and present, who have ties to Clinton. Military veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and healthcare workers, along with their families, are honored through banners displayed across our community.

These banners aren’t just a display. They are a living tribute. Each one tells a story: of dedication, of sacrifice, and of an unwavering commitment to something greater than oneself.

If you’ve walked our streets, you’ve seen them:  the proud faces on lamppost banners, the flags waving along the riverfront, and the memorial monuments standing in solemn tribute.

Together, they create a visual reminder that in Clinton, we never forget the people who have given their all for the greater good.

For neighbors, the Hometown Hero program is a source of deep pride. For visitors, it’s a glimpse into the heart of a community that holds fast to its values. These displays say, without words, that Clinton is a place where service is honored and traditions are kept alive.

We invite you to take a walk through our streets, look up at the banners, pause by a monument, or stand beneath the flag on the riverfront. Each is a symbol of gratitude, and each is a story worth remembering.

If you know someone with Clinton ties who should be recognized as a Hometown Hero, we encourage you to nominate them. The application process is simple, and the impact of seeing a loved one honored in this way is immeasurable.

In Clinton, we honor our heroes not just on special days, but every day. It’s part of who we are and who we will always be.
