              Job Description

               

              Serves as the college's chief development officer and works with the SCC Foundation and college personnel to seek external funds from public and private sources. Responsible for coordinating all facets of community, alumni and media relations for the college. Serves on the SCC Leadership Team to participate in institutional planning and problem solving.

               

              Required Qualifications

               

              Minimum of a Master's Degree with a background in administration, leadership, or related experience required. Must have a high degree of technical fiscal skills and knowledge of accounting and business practices. Experience preparing and managing multiple budgets required. Documented evidence of developing and managing successful fundraising initiatives required. Resource development, marketing and public relations, and supervisory experience required. Experience with educational and business partnerships preferred. Strong organizational skills required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.

               

              Preferred Qualifications

               

              CFRE certification as a fundraising executive is preferred.

               

              Physical Demands

               

              This job operates in a professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. This role requires the ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally, and bend or stand as necessary. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, attending meetings on-campus and off-campus.

               

              Typical Duties and Responsibilities

               

              Resource Development Duties:

               

              1. Develop and implement fundraising initiatives which provide funds for student scholarships and college advancement.

              a. Develop the case statement for annual support and major/planned gifts which reflect the college's mission and vision. Responsible for preparing materials and communications needed to support and develop fundraising efforts and goals.

              b. Organize an annual campaign among employees striving for 100% participation.

              c. Utilize the staff at all levels for peer-to-peer solicitation.

              d. Personally solicit area foundations, businesses, and vendors as appropriate.

              e. Maintain 100% participation, support, and involvement of members of the Board of Directors.

              f. Plan and supervise solicitations of the college's constituency to acquire new donors, upgrade current donors, and solicit additional gifts from current donors.

               

              2. Develop and implement major/planned gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

              a. Identify prospective donors with the capacity and interest to support the objectives of the college's strategic plan with major current gifts and plan and implement individual strategies and events to secure timely commitments at gift levels desired.

              b. Implement appropriate means to recognize donors and carry through with implementation. Communicate results of major gift commitments to donors. Regularly communicate investment experience to endowment donors.

              c. Develop and recommend policies and procedures regarding gift vehicles, gift acceptance, donor recognition, administration and stewardship of planned gifts.

              d. Identify current and potential donors as planned giving prospects. Plan and implement individual strategies to obtain commitments in wills, trusts, and charitable remainder trusts.

              e. Work with donors' advisors to successfully negotiate gift agreements. Develop and implement stewardship plans to assure donors' commitments and to secure additional gifts.

               

              3. Administration

              a. Staff the Board of Directors and its committees. Develop meeting agendas with the chairpersons, prepare meeting notices and submit minutes. Responsible for assuring that the Board and its committees progress according to schedule in developing and implementing the institution's strategic plan.

              b. Assure that proper and accurate records are maintained in accordance with FASB and other applicable standards. Work with the Treasurer of the Board of Directors to timely prepare applicable Board reports. Assure that all state and federal tax and financial reports are filed on a timely basis.

              c. Conduct timely acknowledgments of donors' gifts and commitments that meet IRS requirements and donors' expectations. Assure that proper gift records and donor files are maintained accurately.

              d. Provide training and supervision to achieve program goals when applicable. Implement practices and procedures to help ensure professional growth in decision-making, delegation and empowerment, and appropriate recognition.

              e. Recommend an annual budget for the Foundation's operation. Manage overall expenses within budget.

              f. Coordinate all proposal writing for federal, state, and corporate grants, working in close cooperation with the EICC district designee.

              g. Supervise and evaluate Foundation staff.

              h. Set schedules to assure the highest level of service to customers.

               

              4. Community Outreach

              a. Represent the college at community events, club meetings, and college activities.

              b. Prepare written speeches and/or talking points for the President and others.

              c. Establish media relations and prepare media releases on campus activities and announcements.

              d. Engage with SCC alumni to capture their stories and to develop lasting-relationships.

               

              General Duties:

              1. Assist the President with special projects as needed.

              2. Support the EICC mission, vision, and strategic plan.

              3. Maintain effective and timely communication with all members of the college community.

              4. Provide quality service that meets or exceeds the expectations of internal and external customers.

              5. Serve on college and district level committees, councils, and teams.

              6. Is accessible by cellphone to the College at all times, except during authorized holidays and approved vacation, personal, and sick leave.

              7. Perform other duties as assigned.
